what to expect at your appointment

Schedule your appointment at least four weeks before a special event. This gives potential swelling and bruising time to subside.
To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
Starting arnica supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.
You may not have an active rash or infection in the area being treated.
You may not be pregnant or breastfeeding.

Swelling is normal after treatment. It typically peaks within the first week and gradually subsides over the following 4–6 weeks.
Mild redness or sensitivity may occur and usually resolves within a few hours.
You may take Tylenol as needed for any discomfort or soreness.
Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, or intense exercise for 48 hours post-treatment.
Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated to help reduce swelling.
Do not touch, press, rub, massage, or otherwise manipulate the treated area.
For the first 24 hours, apply ice packs to the treated areas for 20 minutes at a time, as needed.
To help minimize bruising, swelling, and discomfort, consider taking oral arnica and applying over-the-counter arnica gel to the treated areas.
Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fluids after treatment.
Avoid supplements and medications such as ginkgo biloba, garlic, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamins A and E, other essential fatty acids, aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and other NSAIDs for at least 3 days to 1 week, as they may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Refrain from cosmetic treatments (e.g., injectables, lasers, ultrasound treatments, chemical peels, facials, or microdermabrasion) on the treated area for at least 2 weeks.
Temporary numbness or reduced sensation in the treated area is normal and should return to baseline within 8–12 weeks.
Contact your provider immediately if you experience an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, skin breakdown in the treated area, difficulty swallowing, or worsening of any symptoms.
