Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores; an antiviral medication may be recommended.
Avoid sun exposure 2 weeks pre-treatment.
Avoid artificial tanners 3 weeks pre-treatment.
Avoid topical retinoids, hydroquinone, cortisone, benzoyl peroxide, scrubs, AHA's and BHA's for 3 days prior.
No laser, microneedling or chemical peels on the area one month before each treatment.
If you are prone to cold sores, an antiviral may be taken day before, day of, or day after treatment to prevent reactivation.
Come clean-faced if possible.

Redness and swelling will be apparent following treatment, and may last up to 48 hours, with gradual improvement.
Change pillow cases day of treatment.
Avoid excessive sweating, heat, saunas, swimming pools, and hot tubs for 24-48 hours.
Keep skin clean and hydrated, with an ointment such as Aquaphor for first 2-3 days.
Avoid topical retinoids, hydroquinone, cortisone, benzoyl peroxide, scrubs, AHA's and BHA's for minimum 2 weeks.
Avoid sun exposure: SPF 30+ with UVA/UVB protection daily, reapplying throughout the day and wearing a hat as needed.
Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area. If peeling/flaking occurs, do not force skin off, simply reapply moisturizer and SPF.
Cold packs for 20 mins can be used, as needed to minimize swelling and discomfort.

Soothing 'Vinegar Soaks': white vinegar (1 tsp) & cold water (2 cups) kept in refrigerator. Wet a clean thin cloth or washcloth in solution and place on treated area for 5-10 minutes prior to cleansing. This is often helpful prior to cleansing to help remove crusts. It can be done 2-3 times per day, as needed, and is also helpful at preventing infection.
